Water-fort

Janjira is famous for its unconquerable water-fort built in 1515 on an island of 22 acre on the Arabian Sea by Sidhis from Abisirda. Shivaji invaded this water-fort surrounded by 15 meter high wall in 1659. His son Shambhuji made a tunnel in the water of the sea, even then he failed to capture the fort. Apart from a 5 storey palace there are also armory, mosque and two lakes in the fort.
